Honey Bee Wedding Invitation Design
As a designer, I feel it is important to help other professionals in the industry. A close friend told me that she found a design she loved for her wedding invitation, but it was a few hundred dollars just to use the design, not including the printing costs.
The original piece that she sent me was an older, yellowing piece of paper, with a baroque style frame in the center of the paper. It had honey bees and hives illustrated all around the edges of the paper. It was a Victorian, romantic illustrator style.
I spent some time researching these styles. I wanted to incorporate different elements to make the piece more cohesive
I knew I want to incorporate the bee and honeycombs, but I wasn’t sure how to incorporate the romance of a wedding into the design and make it unique for the bride and groom.
With most of my design work, I start with pencil and paper, then move to ink and finally scan my pieces into Illustrator. The final step is to decide what, if anything, needs to be modified or added to create the final product.
For this design, I started with a few different flowers and refined them. The bottom corners have a rose, and a suggestion of flowers overlays the honeycombs. At the top of the piece, I wrapped a queen bee with an ornate baroque frame to add a touch of elegance. I chose to frame the text with simple line and honeycomb, to not take away from the text. The final piece incorporated a romantic elegance, honey bees, and flowers, exactly what the bride had pictured.
