I have always had a love of Paris, France. When it came time to decorate my own home I wanted art that would make me feel comfortable, and to me, Paris is that. I found this canvas panel that was 12×24 which seemed appropriate for a city view. The detail in the painting is in the outline of the Eiffel Tower and the bridge in the foreground. Everything else falls into the background of darkness. The yellow/golden sunset and the bridge color help balance and ground the painting.
When you look at the painting I wanted the yellow sky, where the light is shining through, to be the focal point. I wanted to draw your eye to the Eiffel Tower, in the left of the painting, without the tower being directly in the center of the painting.
The painting has a soft, yet deep, dramatic feel to it through the colors that were used. The dark outline of the city gives the suggestion of Paris without being overwhelming. The reflection of lights in the water under the bridge helps convey that the painting is of a sunset over the city.
