I love the Adirondack Mountains of New York. I spent a large amount of my time there growing up. This is one of my favorite subjects to paint.
Like most of my painting, this was done in acrylic. It is a 16 x 20-inch canvas panel. I wanted the chair and the dock to be the focal point for the piece, by fading and blending the background of the piece. Just by the color of the reflection in the water, you can tell it’s a fall image even without showing any detail in the leaves of the faded trees. I feel I have better control of working with acrylic paint. It is easier for me to mix the paint knowing that it will dry a little and I can mix gradients. Even though there are shades of reds, browns, and greens blended, you still feeling of trees. But they are not the focus of the painting. When looking at the piece at a distance it’s hard to tell if it is a photograph or a painting. Would you know if this was oil or acrylic? I’ll choose to do a scenic painting over any other subject – but I still like to challenge myself so I try to incorporate different styles and mediums in all I do.
