What do you think – is this a painting or a photo? It is a photo. I was at the local hardware store a few months ago and saw this beautiful blue Orchid just sitting there. What are the odds of walking through the store and finding a perfect photo opportunity? The hazy quality around the flower is plastic wrapped around the plant. Somehow, I was able to catch the light just right to just get the one plant and not have the other plants, that were around it, shine through the packaging.
The variety of blue and greens in the petals of the flowers adds to the painting-like quality – along with the natural brightness of the light around the plant.
This is one of those great, spur of the moment images – one of my favorites. Because the longer you look at it, the harder it is to tell if it is a photo or a painting. In a way, it matches the style of flower paintings I have done in the past and the realism I like to convey at the same time. Much of my photography seems to happen at just the right moment to get the perfect image. I do spend some time, on occasion, trying to get the angle just right to make sure the image is perfect and makes a statement.
