As an artist, I have always dreamed of having a piece of artwork in an art show or to even have people other than friends and family look at my art. Earlier this year I had an experience where a friend of a friend heard I was an artist. When he actually saw my art his jaw dropped. By the end of the evening, he convinced me that I should consider a local gallery showing.
I searched for months before finding a gallery that would even consider showing the works of a new artist. I needed to make a postcard to send to everyone I wanted to invite to the showing. Since I love art and museums and exhibits I felt a little overwhelmed at first – how do you create a postcard that describes the show without just putting all the images of your artwork on the front.
The exhibit was a series of painting of places and monuments from around the world, done in watercolor and ink. After thinking about it for a while and considering some of the newer styles in the design field right now, I wanted to do something with interactive print media. I thought it would be an interesting way to grab someone’s attention. I wanted it to look like someone hung a painting next to the actual monument in the image so people could see the actual image and see my interpretation next to it. Placing a shadow under the painting and having that as the top image, helps give the illusion that it is a place over top of the actual place where the image/painting takes place and shows the similarities between each one.
Would you want to go to this show? Let me know what you think about the design of the postcard for the art show in the comment section below.
