The Red Dock Painting shows a different angle of an Adirondack chair on a dock, during a sunset. This one was done in a manner that shows more of the sky and background making the chair seem more dramatic with the reddish hue of the dock to draw your eye from the sky down to the dock. You can see that the sunset is hitting directly on the chair, causing the dramatic shadows and bright coloring of the dock. The tree line seems to fade into the background and be an afterthought to everything else in the image. The piece has such direct and dramatic lighting – it also gives off a calming feel at the same time. You can almost feel the stillness of the water and hear the crickets in the distance. This painting is a16 x 20-inch canvas panel done in acrylic paint.
When looking at this piece at a distance, it’s hard to tell if it is a photograph or an actual painting. With a lot of my work, I try to make things seem very realistic. Most people seem to think you can get a better fine line and more realistic feel from oil paint – I would have to disagree. I feel I have better control of the color in acrylic. Would you know if this was oil or acrylic? I’ll do a scenic painting over anything any day – but I still like to challenge myself, so I try to incorporate different styles and mediums in all I do.
